Prison Art was born in the cell of a Mexican prison when Jorge Cueto was incarcerated. From observing the living condition, mental health and future of his inmates, he decided to start a business employing prisoners for their creative skills and expertise in tattoo in order to create unique leather goods (bags, wallets, belts…).
His company is employing current and former prisoners, allowing them to survive financially these difficult times. Plus, “the vast majority of employers in Mexico require a clean criminal record, therefore formerly incarcerated people face substantial barriers to employment.” from Prison Art website.
